About the San
Mateo Public Library Foundation
The mission of the San Mateo Public Library Foundation is to
raise funds to support the programs and services of the San
Mateo Public Library. The Foundation provides ongoing support
for expanded collections, children’s programming, Project
Read’s Literacy Program, the Biotech Resource Librarian and
special funding for cultural programs planned by the African
American, Hispanic, Asian and Iranian- American Committees and
other special programs offered by the Library.
The Foundation also provided the leadership through its
Capital Campaign to raise $10 million in private individual,
corporate and foundation funds for the building of the new
library and the renovation of the branch libraries whose goal
is to serve the communities of San Mateo, Hillsborough and the
surrounding areas. The Foundation is within $450,000 of
completing its commitment to the City of San Mateo for private
funding of the new library thanks to the generous donations of
nearly two thousand individuals, corporate donors and
foundations.
Your support is important. By making a gift to the Foundation,
you will help the Foundation:
- Complete its Capital
Campaign goal in support of the new Library and the
renovation of the Branches;
- Provide ongoing support
for expanding the Library’s collections of books, DVDs,
newspapers, magazines and journals, and other resources;
- Support the position of
the Biotech Librarian which connects professionals and
members of the community with previous and new developments
in the biotech industry and its impact on the health and
well being of members of our community;
- Continue to provide
literacy tutoring services to our community through Project
Read;
- Provide important outreach
services to serve the youngest members of our community; and
- Support expanded
programming for all including cultural and ethnically-based
programs.

Put Your Name
on a Stack of Library Shelves
A Special Opportunity for Donors of $10,000
Do you have a favorite author, or section at the new San Mateo
Public Library? Now is the time to name your favorite Library
stack with your gift or pledge of $10,000.
Your name, or that of a loved one, will be permanently
inscribed on a commemorative plaque that will be prominently

You may select from over 100 stacks, choosing a category that
is important to you or a loved one.
Future readers of biographies, fiction, romance, children’s
literature, or any of a dozen other categories will come to
identify you with the books, magazines, or media housed on the
stack.
Your donation of $10,000 may be made over a three year period.

pledges are received. For information, please contact Marsha
