The San Mateo Public Library Foundation is searching for passionate and committed community members to join our Board of Directors. We are looking to fill board seats with individuals who recognize the Library as an important agent of our community’s health.

Our Board of Directors is a vital part of our leadership team, partnering with our staff and volunteers to implement our mission, Strategic Plan, and continuously improve our organization. As a member of our board, you will play a crucial role in driving positive change in our community through advocacy and fundraising.

Our Expectations

  • Partner with staff and volunteers to implement strategic plan and continuously improve our organization

  • Promote the Foundation's work through your personal network

  • Attend monthly board meetings

  • Make a personal gift

  • Support with fundraising by contributing time and talents to campaigns and events

Recruitment and Onboarding Process


To join our board for the upcoming fiscal year beginning July 1, there are a few steps to complete:

  1. Please complete and submit your interest form no later than June 1. You can find this form here.

  2. Our current board members will review and select the candidates to interview from April through early June.

  3. Final acceptance will occur by early June.

  4. Introduction to the board at our June 18, 2024 meeting 6:00-7:30 pm.

  5. First meeting as an "official board member" is tentatively August 27, 2024 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

  6. New board members receive orientation materials in mid-August.
