Are you age 70½? If so, the Federal government permits you to rollover up to $100,000 from your IRA to charity without increasing your taxable income (although state tax might still apply). Simply contact your IRA custodian and request an amount to be transferred to the San Mateo Public Library Foundation. We would certainly appreciate this gift and you would avoid tax and likely satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year.
