Put Your Name
on a Stack of Library Shelves
A Special Opportunity for Donors of $10,000
Do you have a favorite author, or section at the new San Mateo
Public Library? Now is the time to claim your favorite Library
stack with your gift or pledge of $10,000.
Your name, or that of a loved one, will be permanently
inscribed on a commemorative plaque that will be prominently
displayed on a stack of library shelves at the Main Library.
You may select from over 100 stacks, choosing a category that
is important to you or a loved one.
Future readers of biographies, fiction, romance, children’s
literature, or any of a dozen other categories will come to
identify you with the books, magazines, or media housed on the
stack.
Donors will also be honored at the Sponsor level on the New
Main Library’s Donor Wall, which will be permanently installed
in early 2008. Pledges may be paid over three years. Stacks
will be reserved in the order in which donations are received.
For information, please contact Karen Baker at

A
Special “Thank You” to Volunteers and Friends
It takes a personal commitment to volunteer for a cause.
Fortunately, there are many who make the San Mateo Public
Library and the Library Foundation the recipients of their
good works by stepping forward to be volunteers. In the last
year, 271 volunteers have given 18,131 hours of their time and
expertise at a value of $340,319 to help with Library programs
and services, fundraising, advisory groups and governance
boards.
The Friends of the Library is one of the longest running
volunteer groups at the Library. Every year, thousands of
books are donated by people in our community. Friends of the
Library volunteers research the value of the books, then sort
and stock them in the Friends of the Library shelves in the
New Books Area and Reading Lounge, located off the first floor
lobby of the Main Library. In the last twelve months, the
Friends’ book sales raised over $22,000!
According to Library Volunteer Coordinator Donna Divodi,
people volunteer at the Library in order to share their
talents, develop new skills, help others, meet new people,
enhance a resume, learn more about their community and spend
time in our beautiful library.
If you would like to volunteer at the Library or Library
Foundation, visit the Library website at
www.smplibrary.org and
click on Volunteer at the Library and Apply Now! You will be
notified of the next volunteer orientation & training session
by email. Or pick up a volunteer application on the “desktop”
of all free-access computers and catalogs in the Library. The
minimum age for volunteering is 14 years, with parental
consent. |
