Friends of the
Library Book Sale
The Foundation’s Friends of the Library is one of the longest
running volunteer groups at the Library. Every year, thousands of
books are donated by people in our community. Friends of the
Library volunteers research the value of the books, then sort and
stock them in the Friends of the Library shelves in the New Books
Area and Reading Lounge, located off the first floor lobby of the
Main Library.
The Friends of the Library raise approximately $30,000 a year for
the Foundation by having the best books bargains in town. The
daily on-going sale, located right off the Grand Lobby of the Main
Library at 55 West 3rd Avenue, has been operating since 1982. In
addition, the Friends have an annual sale held each fall. |

Volunteer with the
Friends of the Library:
Dedicated individuals and couples are needed to sort, price,
shelve and maintain the daily book sale in good order. A Volunteer
commitment of 1 ½ to 2 hours per week is requested on a day and at
a time of your choice. This is a great opportunity for anyone who
loves books and wants to help the Foundation raise funds for the
Library and its collections, programs and services.
Contact the San Mateo Public
Library Foundation at (650) 522.7860 to learn more about how you
